Module II - Other Wound Types and Skin Injuries

Differentiating pressure ulcers from other types of wounds and skin injuries is important for an accurate count of pressure ulcer occurrence. It is also important for identifying appropriate wound treatment.

Wound types and skin injuries often misclassified as pressure ulcers include:

  • Skin Tears
  • Arterial Ulcers
  • Venous Ulcers
  • Diabetic Ulcers
  • Perineal Dermatitis

The characteristics of each wound type/skin injury are provided to facilitate accurate identification of pressure ulcers.
